When photographing births, I don't often get the opportunity to cuddle babies. When A mother finally has her sweet bundle in her arms, it is my job to document that, capturing the emotion. I do this very quietly and without disturbing the family during this very important postpartum period. The first few hours after your baby arrives are some of the most important. The way your baby is cared for and nurtured during this time can significantly impact their transition from the womb to life outside. This first hour should be focused on baby's first breastfeeding, mother-baby and family bonding. Having an undisturbed first hour has many benefits, such as:
~ Establishing nursing, which can aid in placenta detachment and reduce risk of postpartum hemorrhage.
~ Body system regulation. Studies show that babies who are skin to skin are better able to regulate body temperature and respiration rates.
~ Promotes Mother-baby attachment
~ Increases breastfeeding success rates
~ Improves your baby's natural immunity by being exposed to the mothers natural bacteria
Because those first hours are so important and I do not disturb them, it is so wonderful to be invited back to do newborn photos where I get to snuggle sweet babies for hours. It's such an amazing experience to witness these miracles enter this world and what a delight it is to continue to be part of their lives.
I photograph newborns in different ways. Some families want lifestyle images, in their home snuggling their baby and not posing. Many families want posed newborn images, like the ones below of the cutest birth photography baby I have ever seen. I offer both types of sessions, you can see more details here. Now enjoy some newborn sweetness, Cecilia, 22 days new....
